NTPC Korba celebrated World Environment Day by planting saplings

Korba, june 5, 2022: World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June to raise awareness about environmental degradation and protection of environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), environmentalists encourage people to take affirmative action and help build a better future. In view of the same, NTPC Korba unit celebrated World Environment Day by planting about 300 saplings in Silver Jubilee Park located in NTPC residential complex and conducted various programs.
During the celebartions, P Ram Prasad addressed the public including the officers and employees present in the park regarding environmental protection. He said that environment is a gift of nature for the maintenance of life on earth. Every element that is essential to life comes under environment such as air, water, light, land, trees, forests and other natural elements. Our environment plays an important role for the existence of healthy life on earth.

P Ram Prasad administered the oath of environmental protection to all the officers, employees and journalists present on the occasion of this World Environment Day program. All present took oath collectively and said that we take oath that “We will always take care to control land, water, air, and noise pollution and take care of the protection of natural resources. We will boycott the materials made of plastic. Even if it is absolutely necessary, we will use it sparingly, so that the environment is not polluted. We will try our best to protect and improve nature including forests, lakes, rivers and wild animals, as well as always keep a feeling of love and compassion towards animals. We will always be ready for the protection of water, forest and land. Hazardous solid, liquid and gas waste will be disposed of properly. We will play an important role in reducing global temperature by planting more and more trees. We will always comply with the rules and conditions made for environmental management and conservation of natural resources. We will always keep in mind that the protection of the earth is necessary for human life.”

It may be noted that various competition programs were organized by NTPC regarding environmental protection. In which many participants had displayed their talents.

NTPC strengthens its commitment to the environment: A look at the recent efforts made for the environment
India’s largest, integrated power company NTPC organized World Environment Day on 5th June across all its sites. This year, in line with the theme of World Environment Day – #Only One Earth – the company is spreading awareness about environmental protection by organizing tree plantation, oath taking ceremony and awareness campaigns.
As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, NTPC is undertaking several sustainable initiatives like the inauguration of Smart Township at Solapur, Maharashtra. During the CPSE ICONIC Week celebrations, NTPC is also organizing a massive tree plantation drive at its various power stations.
In an endeavour to deliver sustainable and affordable energy, NTPC has declared Energy Compact Goals at the UN and become the first energy company in the world to do so. On the eve of World Environment Day, NTPC is reinforcing its commitment towards environment.

Even though the power major has been actively exploring opportunities in green hydrogen, carbon capture, battery storage, electric mobility and waste-to-energy space, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has been incorporated to drive clean energy initiatives of the company through a focused approach. By 2032, the company intends to have 60 GW capacity under its belt through Renewable Energy sources.
In line with National Water Mission, NTPC has been committed to the optimization of water footprint through sustainable usage including its re-use through efficient Operations and Maintenance by conservation techniques like rainwater harvesting at all its establishments. Reinforcing its unwavering commitment, NTPC has signed the CEO Water Mandate, which is a highly collaborative partnership between UNGC and specialized organizations dealing with water issues.
NTPC has modelled its sustainability initiatives through state-of-the-art technologies and process innovations to not only reduce ecological footprint but also bring positive gains for conservation, enhancement and restoration of biodiversity.

In tune with this, the company has issued Renewed Biodiversity Policy 2022 to establish a comprehensive vision and guiding principle in this domain. NTPC was the first PSU to issue Biodiversity Policy in 2018 and became a member of the India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI) in the same year.
NTPC has implemented the Circular Economy initiative through Reduce, Reuse and Recycle approach for all waste generated from its operations. The company has saved more than 4 crore of paper equivalent to approximately 5000 fully grown trees annually by going paperless. NTPC has been environmentally conscious while creating a habitat for migratory birds around its power stations.
Further, NTPC has launched the use of treated sewage water from Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of municipal body for thermal power plants located within a 50 km radius of the STP. It has also initiated the co-firing in thermal plants through biomass pellets.
