BALCO organizes eye checkup camp to mitigate incidence of conjunctivitis cases

Balconagar, (Korba). Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium, organized a comprehensive 3-day eye checkup camp within its premises recently. The camp, aimed at mitigating the increased incidence of conjunctivitis cases among employees, also offered free eye checkups for drivers and crane operators who are instrumental in ensuring the company’ssmooth operations.
Conjunctivitis is a highly contagious eye disease that has been witnessing an increase in cases of late. Keeping the health and wellbeing of its workforce and their families in mind, BALCO undertook the eye checkup camp to help mitigate the spread of the illness and also promote wider awareness of preventive measures against it. The event witnessed an enthusiastic response, with approximately 400 employees and business partners coming forward to avail themselves of the eyecareservices.

BALCO has been actively involved in various social welfare projects aimed at enhancing healthcare facilities for the communities in the vicinity of its operations. Notably, the company has been operating a Mobile Health Van (MHV) in association with Help Age India, providing doorstep healthcare services to approximately 45 communities in the vicinity. This initiative has significantly benefited around 15,000 residents since commencing its activities.Another commendable effort by BALCO is the establishment of the Rural Health Post, which caters to the healthcare needs of approximately 3,000 residents annually. The facility has been instrumental in providing top-notch healthcare services to the rural population residing in remote, less accessible locations, helping elevate their quality of life.
These proactive measures in promoting employee wellbeing and community health have helped garner widerecognition for BALCO. Recently, the company was honored with the prestigious Arogya World Award in the ‘Healthy Workplaces Awards – 2022’ category. The award serves as a testament to BALCO’s unwavering commitment to employee health and wellbeing, deeply ingrained in a culture of care and concern.
